Amy Winehouse in Rehab

Amy Winehouse in Rehab

They tried to make her go to rehab, and usually she says, "No, no, no!" Only this time, People has learned that Amy Winehouse has said "Yes, yes, yes," checking into a rehab facility on Wednesday to be treated for alcohol addiction.

According to an inside source, in "typical Amy style," Winehouse guzzled a miniature bottle of Smirnoff vodka while en route to London's Priory Clinic. One last hurrah, we guess?

Another source close to Winehouse confirms that her latest stint in rehab was initiated by her father, Mitch Winehouse. "Her dad sat her down and said 'I think you're drinking too much again,'" the source tells People. "So she agreed to go an assessment to stop it becoming a bigger problem."

The singer's ongoing struggle with alcohol and drug addiction has been the subject of almost-constant media attention ever since she struck gold with her 2006 album Back to Black (which, of course, includes the hit song "Rehab"). Back to Black was nominated for six Grammys and won five, including best new artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The runaway success of Back to Black set all kinds of records. Winehouse is the first British singer to be win five Grammys. But her soulful voice and powerful songs were soon overshadowed by tabloid frenzy. Her marriage to She has been in and out of rehab, and the pressure on her to get clean has intensified ever since footage emerged of Winehouse allegedly doing drugs on camera.

A rep for the singer tells People that Winehouse "has embarked on a treatment program at the Priory Clinic. She wants to be ready for performances in Europe this summer and decided to seek an assessment. She will remain at the Priory on doctors' advice."

On June 18, Winehouse kicks off a concert series throughout Europe, and part of her reasoning for going to rehab was to get sober for that grueling schedule. Her friend tells People, "It's just a lapse. There are ups and downs on the road, and there have been mostly ups recently. But this is a down and she's done the right thing and gone to rehab."
